May feels like a very long time ago, but the memory of Katy & Stu’s wedding is still strong. The venue was the spectacular St Donat’s Castle, tucked deep in the Vale of Glamorgan, and we were honoured to team Classic Soul Dogs band with South Wales wedding planner, Oh So Perfect.
After a week of wet and blustery weather, Katy and Stu were blessed with glorious Welsh sunshine. The castle looked resplendant as the guests arrived to take their seats in the Great Hall.
Following a beautiful ceremony, the guests were invited to enjoy champagne sorbet, strawberries and cream, and apple pie ice-cream on the top lawn – accompanied by spectacular views over the Bristol Channel towards Minehead. “Oh, I do like to be beside the seaside!”
The coastal theme continued into the wedding breakfast with Katy & Stu, both avid surfers, choosing to name their tables after beaches, breaks and bays that they loved. The room was laid out in banquet style, and the tables were adorned with lanterns, slate, starfish and pebbles, as well as glass vases filled with sand, stones, grasses and wild flowers. Guests’ names were hand painted onto pebbles, and a charitable donation was made in everyone’s honour – in place of name cards and favours.
Katy even hand-painted the small wooden couple atop the wedding cake – this was a true DIY bride!
Soul was the order of the evening and, after a second room-turnaround, Classic Soul Dogs wedding band were ready to take the stage. After a beautiful first dance, we dove straight into our energetic first set – leading the dancing with Stevie Wonder, Signed Sealed Delivered. The band took the wedding guests on a tour of the best soul, funk and disco, before ending the set with a few 80’s classics.
An evening BBQ was served to the guests while the band took a short break, and then it was time for more dancing! Armed with full stomachs, the guests were ready for our power soul set… this set features all of the best, up-beat soul designed for dancing. Everything from Jackie Wilson to Wilson Picket is in this set and it’s a non-stop dance hour. We hope the guests left South Wales with sore feet, and big smiles on their faces!
We even had time for a quick band photo!
Katy and Stu shared these kind word with us on the morning after their wedding.
